I have had a Home Equity Line of Credit for 30 years, I also at the time was in a steel fabricating business for 42 years. I was doing business with four different banks with my business and personal. At 62 years old a line of credit ends, there were two ways to pay the unpaid balance to the lender, pay the unpaid balance in full or the unpaid balance of the equity line of credit turned into a standard loan with a high variable interest rate monthly payment, ouch. Because of the high balance due I had chosen the high variable interest rate loan. I thought I could pay it off within the next few years. That did not happen, but at 65 I decided it was time for me to retire, the steel fabricating business was taking a toll on my senior aged body.
To my surprise, I was very, very sadden at the way all the banks were treating me, no banks would allow me to refinance my house, I was retired, my profit and debt didn’t look good even though the p interest rate and monthly payment by the lender would be almost cut in half.
