Throughout the process, we often felt like we were a nuisance rather than potential clients. Communication was one of the biggest issues. When we asked questions about the estimates and loan structure, many of them either went unanswered, or the explanations we eventually received contradicted earlier information.

Responsiveness was also a major problem. It frequently took a long time to get a response from James, even when we reached out to both his personal cell phone and his work phone. At one point, while we were actively trying to submit an offer on a home, we had to contact Rocket Mortgage directly just to escalate our requests and get the information we needed.

We also had concerns about how certain terms were presented to us. As an employee affiliated with Schwab, we were told lender fees could be waived. However, when we reviewed the estimates, it appeared those “waived” fees were effectively offset by higher interest rates. When we asked for clarification, the explanations we received were unclear and didn’t inspire confidence in the transparency of the process.

Buying a home is a major financial decision, and we expected clearer communication, transparency, and responsiveness. Unfortunately, that wasn’t our experience, which is why we ultimately chose to move forward with a different lender.Read MoreRead Less
