We chose Rocket Mortgage for our home purchase, but the experience was frustrating and stressful. Repairs on the seller’s side delayed the loan process so much that our initial loan approval timed out. We had to reapply, which caused my credit score to drop below the required level.

I ended up paying off a debt on a credit card I was trying to reduce, just to raise my score again, which took extra time and increased closing costs by nearly $1,000. I also had to come up with additional reserves due to the score drop.

The process took four months from signing the purchase agreement to closing. Communication was poor, with many people involved who repeatedly asked for the same documents and seemed unaware of the loan’s status.
