Overall, I had a positive experience at the beginning of the loan process. As first-time homebuyers, we had a lot of questions, and he always seemed available to answer our calls and explain things. We appreciated how accessible he was early on and felt supported getting started.
As the process progressed, however, the experience became more frustrating. I'm not sure if his workload increased or what changed, but communication became less clear and less consistent. Since this was our first home purchase, we relied heavily on the explanations we were given. Unfortunately, there were several instances where the way things were explained led to misunderstandings on our end.
One example was the seller concessions. We understood throughout the process that the remaining seller credit after closing costs could be applied elsewhere within the transaction. It wasn't until the week before closing that we learned the remaining amount would instead need to be handled by reducing the purchase price. While I understand the guideline now, I wish that had been communicated much more clearly from the beginning, as it caused unnecessary stress and confusion.
There were also several times when I reached out for updates and was told everything was on track or that something would be checked on, but then another member of the team would contact us about that same item, or we would have to follow up again to make sure it had been addressed. It often felt like we were piecing together updates from multiple people rather than receiving consistent communication from one point of contact.
I appreciate the help we received and know buying a home is a complicated process. My biggest suggestion would be to provide clearer explanations, especially for first-time homebuyers, and to be more proactive with communication throughout the process.
